In advertisements the hands of a clock usually indicate '10 past 10' (or '10 to 2').

A possible explanation: the golden rectangle ?!

I came up with this pencil paradox in 1988.
The drawing on the left shows 5 white pencils and 5 striped pencils.
By swapping the pieces A and B you get the drawing on the right,
showing 6 white and 4 striped pencils.
Can you explain this?
